Dump the Trash out of Your Life Before you Fill it With Your Dreams

You tried many time management techniques. But, they “didn’​t work” for you​​​​​​​​. You know why ?

It is not because the time management technique was​​​ bad. There is a different reason for that. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Before I tell you about it, let me ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​give you a small analogy.

Imagine your garbage day is on Saturday. During winter time, even if we miss a week or two to keep the trash outside, it still won’t matter much. Because it gets preserved ! However in summer, things are different. Imagine you missed taking garbage out the first week. Then the second week. This is third week, and now it becomes an urgent matter to throw out the garbage. You just lifted up the garbage, and you see Maggo​​ts and bugs inside it ! Now, the question becomes, how do you throw out this garbage can.

Our life is a garbage bin like this. It is just covered up. We don’t clean them, and thus have messed up our life. If you try managing your time without removing all the garbage out, it don’t work out. When people start off time management, they don’t deal with what they are “dealing” with. If we are carrying all the junks of life, then it little helps when we pour in time management to it.

Let me give you another example. You went to eat a Cheese double meal burger ! After the burger, you take a juice. You know what will happen – your whole body will get bloated. You just took a healthy juice and dumped into your stomach – which contain all the unhealthy food that you took.

If you visualize dreams before you dump the trash out of your life, then your goals come out really slim. Because your goal setting and time management, will be based on the Maggo​​ts. What we need is a 3 step process.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​1) Take your garbage bin and dump out the trash.

2) You need to cleanse it – Detoxify

3) Once it detoxified and purified, it is good as new.

Then you bring your dreams and start pouring it.

What are all the Trash that we carry with us

1) All the distractions of our life - Emails, facebook, twitter, other social networks, unimportant time wasters. You cannot build your dreams when you check your email every 5 minutes.

In your work place, look at all the distractions you have. How you can be productive if you have all the distractions that you are facing.

2) Keeping everything in our mind. You want to live your dream, and you have “stuffs” in your brain. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​What you need to do is – get it off your head. This is like putting an alarm for 10 minutes. When you do this, you disengage yourself from keep checking the time. We carry everything in our brain, and it just clogs there. Your head feels very heavy when you carry all things in your brain, instead of putting them out of the brain. You don’​t have anything else in your​​​ mind. Your mind is at peace. No stress. Because it is not in mind.

3) Multitasking habit - ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​You are talking to someone “and” you are checking your email in your black berry​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​. We​ usually ​​​​​​​​do that to ​​​people. They are talking to you​​, and we​ check our​​ email/phone ! When s​​​omeone is ​​​talking​​​ to you​​, just ​​​​​shut off the phone and put it aside. Or if your​ phone supports, ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​you can shut off the antenna. So the call don’t interrupt you. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​When you want to interact with people, you​​ go to voice mail. You don’t need to be open to everyone whenever they want.

You went for a soccer game with your son. While he is playing, you are on your black berry. We live in the world of multi tasking. We are not living a life of focus. To live our dreams, we need to learn the skill of focus. What ever we do, we do it with full engagement. Someone wants to talk to you, sure – Switch the phone. ​

You have a habit of “texting”​​​​​​ while you drive. When you are driving, you are multi tasking. And it might even be so harmful that you can think.

Shutting off email notifications. Close all distractions. Do just one task. Then take a recharging break. What ever you do is now totally focussed. Even break is totally focussed. All in the same day.

4) You have an unclean unorganized living environment. Just look around you. Your bedroom, closet, rest room, car, garage. How clean and organized they are. When was the last time you cleaned them ? You are going to live your dreams, but by living in this environment, you cannot make it happen.​

5) Trying to chase 4 balls at the same time. ​We ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​have something called multiple balls. We have 4 balls and I am going to catch all of them, at the same time. You know what is the result ? You loose all of them. Because you chased all of them. If you chase more than one, you lost them all. Because your mind is multi tasking.

How is your financial situation. Do you manage your money well ? Many people actually don’t check their bank accounts. And they end up all the fines and missed payments. How great would be if it was all organized. Your heart is at rest, and now you can start building your dreams.

6) Our Belief System (BS ! ) – Deep within us we have beliefs like “I am not worthy enough”, “I am not good enough”, “It wont happen to me”. Lot of beliefs we maintain with this. This we might have got from our parents,friends, family, peers or society. Whatever the source is – this belief has stopped you from achieving your dream. It is like trying to drive by putting the hand breaks on. We need to release the hand breaks, to have a smooth side.

To clean up the trash from your life, we can use a technique called “Brain Dump”. Also called Brain Breeze. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

    thank you for this great article, I hope I can apply this, though some tips will feel a bit difficult to do — those distractions are quite addictive to me :P
