SuccessMuslim Productive Tools Review – Part 2 – weekplan.net
By SuccessMuslim
This is the second part of the SuccessMuslim productive tool review. For the first part, click here. Today we will review weekplan.net
What is weekplan.net ?
weekplan.net is an implementation of time management system proposed by Stephen Covey in his best selling book – 7 Habits of highly effective people. The time management system proposed by Covey asks a person to identify roles he is to do for the upcoming week. For eg, son, father, business executive, student, etc. Based on the role, covey asks to come up with tasks you want to achieve against each role.
Weekplan’s simple interface helps to identify roles and add them. And then we can assign tasks against each roles. The benefit of the weekplan site is that it too implements the “week” task management approach, and hence you get to see your roles and tasks for the whole week.
Features of Weekplan.net
1) Ability to add “Mission statement” – This too go back to Covey’s 7 habits where he asks the person to come up with a personal mission statement. A statement that will drive him to take action. A statement that will give purpose to his daily actions. Weekplan.net has a section ( a separate page) where we can add our Mission statement. I felt this was a cool feature, as I can refer to my mission statement regularly in the website.
2) Adding tasks is very easy. The interface of adding tasks looks similar to teauxdeux.com (which we reviewed in the first part of this series). I think either one got inspired by the other. In any case – this interface helps me to add tasks to the week, and see my task list in a weekly basis so I get a good view of my week ahead.
3) Ability to add “Past achievements” – I thought this was a really cool feature. Adding past achievements helps to see our accomplishments and will surely serve as motivation factor for performing well in the upcoming tasks. A really motivating feature.
4) Adding values - This too is a great feature. You can define what values you hold in your life. Contribution, connection to Allah, Service, honesty, etc. Reviewing this list in a daily basis helps to reiterate those values within us.
5) “Things I have learned this week” and “Things I could have done better” - Another awesome feature. Every week we learn something new, and there are thing we identify as we could improve better. weekplan.net gives option to document them in a weekly basis. At the end of week, when looking back on our weekly accomplishment, we will surely have some lessons we want to carry forward and things we want to improve. We can document them in this section.
6) Free – This is another good part. The website is completely free. They might introduce premium features in the future – but from their blog, the basic features will still remain free.
Nice to have features
1) Day view or Month view of the tasks - Currently tasks are week view. Would be nice to have a day view, or a month view of my tasks. Though, I am still happy with the week view !
2) Calendar integration - This is where weekplan.net is yet to implement the Steven Covey’s time management technique. Covey asks to identify the weekly roles and come up with tasks. And then, put them in a calendar – so that the tasks have a prescribed time to do them. Currently in weekplan.net – only tasks for the week are listed out, without having the option to put them to a calendar. A calendar view for the tasks would really add more value to this already great application.
3) More better “settings” – Going to settings page, you only have the option of choosing your “week start” day. If I want to change my password, or my time zone, or any other personal setting, I am not able to do so. Adding them would surely make this product more user friendly
Summary
Overall a great time/task management system. If used properly, it can really help you in managing your time and tasks to the best.
